Certain spyware will attempt to remove this file. Or it can get
corrupted. The purpose of the file is to facilitate certain types of
installations. If missing, the above message will result.
The following procedure will replace it from the spare backup copy in
Windows/Repair folder. Or you could do it manually---overwrite if prompted.
Open Notepad.
type:
COPY C:\WINDOWS\REPAIR\AUTOEXEC.NT C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
Save this file as run1st.bat. Doubleclick it to execute it. You may need to
do this in Safe Mode.
Then go into Windows/System32 and make the file Readonly. This might
protect it against spyware damaging it.
There's an alternative possible solution involving running the XP
Compatibility Wizard on the Setup file here:

This might work if the file is in order, but it is a program compatibility
failure. Don't hold your breath.
