Hello Kelly,
Disabling JavaScript is not a viable solution since it is used by many
sites for legal purposes (determining your browser, screen resolution,
checking forms, DHTML effects, etc.) Many sites will not work correctly
with JS disabled.
The solution for closing those popups is a small program called KillAd. I
use it to close all windows that are smaller than 800x500 pixels (on an
1024x768 screen) and some other undesired windows. By the way, it also
disposes of most of the pop-up advertising, like those found on Hypermart
or Tripod and those I find most annoying. And it is self-learning: if you
encounter a window you don't want to see anymore, add it to Kill List. It
is that simple.
A tip (works even without the KillAd :) :
If you can't see the window title and/or menu, Alt-F4 will close the
offending browser window.
