I have Adobe Acrobat 5 and occasionally create PDF files. For some reason,
the resulting PDF files are much larger than they should be. For example, an
MS Word document that is 133KB becomes over 1MB. By tweaking the settings in
Acrobat Distiller, I managed to "shrink" the PDF to "only" 552KB. Still
seems too large.

A second part to this question is that Adobe seems to have two printer
drivers that it installs (optionally). One is the Distiller, and the other
is the PDF-Writer. I found that Distiller seems to have more options, but
Writer works faster. Any explanations or comments on this are welcome.

Am I doing something wrong in my PDF creation? I already removed and
re-installed Acrobat with no change in results.

Thank you for any insights or suggestions.

Peter
