Hello Chet,
Your hosts file appears to be a typical Windows hosts file. To me, that's
bad. There are many custom hosts files available online with the site below
having one of the best. These custom hosts files are designed to help
protect you from the bad guys. To learn more about what the hosts file is
and what it does, visit this site:
Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
I highly recommend using the file offered by this site. Complete download
and usage instructions are on site. View their HOSTS file while there to see
the number of entries and what they are to give you an idea how it protects
you.
Most popular anti-spyware programs have an option to either backup, monitor,
or lock your HOSTS file. I suggest you explore the options of the programs
you use and take advantage of this feature if there.
