As a beta tester, I have a "final form" copy of what Microsoft has named
"Windows 98 Second Edition". [Unlike Win95 OSR2, you will be able to buy
this without buying a new system (or major component).]
It's not clear to me, though, how much I can say about it before it is
actually available in stores -- and I'm not sure when that date is. I don't
think it can be very far off.
The only bug that I've encountered in it seems to also have been in the
first release of Win98, where apparently I just never noticed it (and I guess
neither did anyone else, so it must not be very important...).
The only really new feature I've noticed is the inclusion of NAT technology
for modem-sharing (similar in concept to WinGate); I had not expected to see
that ship until Windows 2000. [I've seen enough public discussion/reports
that I do not believe that this feature's inclusion is a secret; since I
haven't really exercised it, I won't go into any specific detail, and so I
don't think I'm violating Microsoft's secrecy.]
