First off thank you very much for your great web site & I really love all the great stuff in your digest emails that I recieve.
But since I might not have too much time here to post I'll get right to the subject. My pc started doing shutdowns & rebooting by itself yesterday.I'm running Norton protection & it says that the virus found is called -W32.Randex.gen.- but I can't find that in their list or when I do a search.
I went to microsoft & when I went to the Lsasser Removal tool it says that I have no virus.A friend came by & went to the task manager & removed some of the programs that were running and my pc ran fine for a couple hours. When I rebooted a while a few hours after I'd been off of it, the shutdown/reboot window came up again. And the whole process started again.I couldn't even re
boot in safe mode.
I have a Compac5000A with intel inside celeron,564 Mhz,192 MB.I have att dsl(it was only hooked up yesterday)my OS is XP Pro,Norton sytmantic 2004,
Is this the lsasser or what? the little window that comes up to shutdown / reboot says"LSAShell(expand version)error signaiture,szAppName:lsass.exe-szAppVersion:5.1.2600.1106-szName:unknown-szModVersion:0.0.0.0-Offset:00000000.
I need to find out how to remove this if you know of a good free removal tool.Otherwise I will have to do a clean install my friend says.
Thank you for your help,
