It may be that this is a shared setting.  If you have not already
tried this,
open M$ Word (with a blank or other document showing), click "Tools",
then "Options".  On the edit tab, clear the check box by "When
selecting,
automatically select entire word."  If this is indeed a 'shared
setting', this
may fix it.
