I had one of the early WGA updates screw up my machine, and so for a
long time I made sure to set a restore point before installing newer
ones, Of course, I never had another problem with them....

An issue I *do* have, however, is that my main home desktop has an
nVidia motherboard chipset, and I've never been able to find a driver
for the nVidia IDE controller that was SP3-compatible. It's really hard
to update to SP3 when, part way through, your OS forgets how to talk to
the hard drives!
(I use SP3 on several other machines, and would have updated this one
long ago if I could....)

After having MS really screwing up a computer that I repaired (I used my
XPpro CD) I have my printer AND computer on a switchable power bar &
it's turned OFF when I'm not using it. Stick "Windows Great Advantage"
down the sewer! The owner was on welfare & could
not afford A new OS CD!! Al Smith

Yes. I dislike updates, haven't updated mine in at least 3 years and
have had no security problems. Much better to have your own good
security installed (eg Avira, Malwarebytes) than rely on OS fixes, most
of which are useless anyway. Many are for "problems" that simply don't
exist in the real world.

XP has been patched so many times that by now it looks more like a
patchwork quilt than an operating system.
