Just to add one thing to Peter's info is if you have JAVA installed this
is where you may have gotten it! I had the same problem as you do. I had
to do a system restore to get totally rid of it. If you allow Java to
auto update you might want to think twice about that. I do a manual
update on JAVA and any other programs that install over the internet.
The ask toolbar is nothing less than a pain in the you know what! :)
Also Java changes the software they sneak in there on occasion, they
sometimes included a version of McAfee which is a pain to get rid of if
you don't want it.

Yeah, ASK toolbar - not malicious ,just a nuisance if you don't want it.
Yes ,you could remove everything related to ASK ,but read below.
To uninstall you can also try REVO uninstaller
