Hi Will,

One way to assign or change the association is to locate a file with that
extension using Windows Explorer. Once located, right click on the file,
select "Open With -> Choose Program...", then from the list of installed
applications, select WordPerfect and check the box "Always use the selected
program to open this kind of file". Then click OK. It will open the file
using wordperfect, and assign the extension (.doc) with WordPerfect from
then on.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Associating a file type in Vista

Hello all!

I have come across an odd one: a client called to say that Vista couldn't
open a .doc file on her computer: the error message said there was no
program associated with that type of file. She uses WordPerfect 10 and has
no MS Office products on her computer. So I told her to go to Control Panel/
Default programs then click on Associate a file type or protocol with a
program. Much to my surprise, the file types listing did not include .doc
and I could see no way to add a new file type not in the list.

(I had her open the file by opening WordPerfect then browsing to the file in
question - worked like a charm.)

There MUST be a way to add .doc to that list without installing Word!. Would
anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your time and thought on this.
