Diane, if you're using XP, I can tell you that mine does the same - intermittently.  Haven't established any cause and effect for this yet.  

Another cute trick that my XP Pro occasionally does involves the icon labels on the taskbar - the little boxes that popup and tell you what each icon represents.

Every now and then, the popups pop up BEHIND the taskbar, instead of in front, so they can't be read.  

Maybe Longhorn will solve some of these little glitches.........
