I have had trouble with ROXIO Direct CD since the day I first tried to install it.
(It came with EZCD-3)... And every version I tried since.
I tested it HARD and lost some disks (data) easily... I ignore it as a program.

On the ROXIO support E-MAIL list (when they had the company one _themselves_,
(like the NoSpin ones) they DID caution to never try to STOP the DirectCD program.
If you do not want it running, you must un-install it rather than "tinker with it"...

All that said, there is only one "byte" (or "bit??") that determines the media type when
the disc is read. Your one CD-player (burner?) is having trouble reading that correctly.

If the disc in question is CD-RW, the compatibility issues are even greater.
