IMHO, the performance is a result of a good mobo, cpu, graphic board and
enough DRAM to avoid OS swappin'.

I own a DFI mobo, AMD K6-2 550, a TNT2 and 128 MB of RAM, and I know that
I'm short of RAM...

I must add at least 256 MB more....

RAM is a really important factor.

So, check your sw requirements, (games, apps, etc) and multiply RAM by 2.
