Peter probably meant they are not good, which is only partially
correct. Creative does not make their cd-roms, they only slap logos,
and same specification drives may come from different manufacturers. I had one
48x that failed after 4 mo. of usage, and the replacement unit was all
different - different design, different operation, only the same logo
and the speed. The internal design of the drive - shape of cut for the head on the
tray, for example, also hinted that these two don't even belong to the
same manufacturer.

And they both hooked themselves up as slaves and seemed happy enough :)
