Try running DXDIAG for Direct X. I was having 3D problems on my Radeon 9500
Pro and somehow running DXDIAG solved the problems. Don't know why. Can't
hurt, but may help.

Subject: [PCBUILD] 9800 XT Problem

Just a couple of months ago I built my own computer. I got everything I
wanted. Well now my awesome Radeon 9800 XT graphics card is screwing up on
my. I think. I've downloaded all of the latest drivers for my motherboard
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe with a AMD 3200 and my ATI drivers. Everytime I try to
play a game my screen flickers and is garbled. I'm starting to think that
my graphics card is a dud. Please someone Help!!!
