When we tried to install an HP855 on a Win95 network, we discovered that
the printer drivers could not be installed over the net from a computer on
which that printer was selected as the default printer apparently because at
least one of the driver files was open at the time of the installation
attempt. In the hope of addressing this suspected shortcoming and in an
effort to discover an alternative approach, we installed the printer drivers
from diskette on the remote computer as a local printer. Thereafter, we
installed the same printer on the remote computer as a network printer and
accepted the proposal that we retain the drivers found to be installed.
Ouila'! This worked on each of the remaining stations on our net.

While our explanation of the underlying problem surely is speculative,
our installation success continues.

    HTH.
