Sound in WinXP-PRO: Type of Sound Card?

I have been setting up (changing over to) a new computer.

Which is the best choice for regular (not high performance) sound,
OR which is "easier" on my system - (CPU usage, etc.)
Since I rip CDs in DAE I'm thinking the sound card will not affect that.
I also transfer tape to audio files and then to CDs which "will" use
analog audio.

The software (wave table stuff, players and all) that came with these cards
will not work in XP and I do not care about those "issues".

Choices:
Soyo MB On-board sound.
    [Sound Device]
    Name VIA Audio controller - SigmaTel CODEC
    Manufacturer SigmaTel
    (No hardware buffers)

SoundBlaster16 legacy ISA sound card.

SIIG PCI  ic1612 (or) io1612, both (sv550/yamaha724)

PCI  Yamaha ymf724e-v  (looks real close to the above)

The system is an AMD AthlonXP 1700+ with 384M ram.

I never understood the differences in the selection process
for the above. Sorry if this is a "no-brainer" question...

Will the PCI cards work in XP with the XP provided drivers,
(if any)?
