Hello readers,

I set up a home network with two machines, one Dell running XP Home with a nic card, the other machine, generic running WME with a nic card. Both machines are connected to a Belkin 4 port Gateway Router connected to a Motorola surfboard SB4100 cable modem. Both machines will connect to the internet fine, and both machines seem to recognize each other, but I come to a dead end when attempting to share files and a printer. (printer is connected to the XP machine via USB) The help index on the XP machine refers to making an easy install floppy to more easily make all the proper connections, but the XP machine did not come with a floppy drive to make the disk, and I've attempted to make a CD(RW) with the proper files to accomplish this but the XP machine doesn't seem to want to send that info to that drive. Also, the index also refers to installing a hub and sharing a single internet connection through the host machine, and at this point, I am beginning to get confused. Can the file and peripheral sharing be done through the router, or must a hub be installed as well?

I was wondering if there were any relatively easy to understand articles on these snags available to those of us who are somewhere between novice and average with regard to knowledge in this area.

TIA

Dean Kiley
