The very first thing I would check, if I were you, is the drivers. Make
sure you have all of the most modern and proper drivers. Remember that
sometimes Windows will use a driver for a device and report it as
functional, but for that device to work properly, you still need a driver
from the manufacturer. It could be malware, but I'm doubting it. It is
possible that you can't get the most modern drivers for Windows XP, in
which case I would find some way to upgrade to Windows 7 again. I would
contact the manufacturer and tell them the situation. They may have pity on
you and give you a way to get the OS back. If you're super lucky, the
product key for Windows 7 Pro is on your computer or documentation that
came with it.
P.S. If you just formatted the HD using the quick format option, and don't
touch the HD (don't create partition/install OSes) you may be able to
recover the partition and make Windows bootable again at least until you
can recover the product key.

 Blessings,
Jacob Smith
