Have just installed Win98 on a new system. Celeron 400; 128MB PC-100
RAM; Asus P2B-F mobo; set at 66MHz w/ 6.0x multiplier.

No TSR's running.

Response is sluggish. Esp. when moving through the START menu or
scrolling through Windows Explorer. In the case of the latter, I can
hold down a vertical scroll arrow and the scrolling process will
literally crawl and eventually pick up speed in a few seconds - like it
needs a running head start.

There are 3 IDE devices. Primary master is WD 6.4GB IDE HD; Secondary
Master = Asus 40x Max CDROM drive; Secondary Slave = Iomega Internal
250MB Zip Drive (configured as drive "B").

The video board is an ATI Rage IIC (AGP) w/ 8MB. I had the display
properties set at True Color (24-bit) at 1024 x 768 (on a 17" Viewsonic
E771-2 monitor) originally. I can alleviate the problem to a great
extent by dropping the colors down to High Color (16-bit).

Is this a case of needing more or faster video RAM?

I'd be greatful for ya'lls ideas, suggestions as to how to go about
nailing this problem down.

TIA
