Someone else mentioned that using an audio cable with a CD-ROM and sound
card would disable the earphone jack on the CD-ROM. I thought I had tried
this once and I just checked. My old Sony 2x and my current Creative 32x
both allow using the front earphone jack even though an audio cable runs
between the CD-ROM and my SoundBlaster. With my current CD-ROM, I can use
either the earphone jack on the CD-ROM or the speakers connected to the
sound card to listen to audio CDs. In fact, both the earphones and the
speakers work at the same time if both are plugged in at the same time.
