Lynn,

Unless your microphone and speakers are position right
(and that would be another lesson) you can subject
yourself to a lot of feedback when speaking into the
mike. What you want to do is disable you microphone
from being a playback device.

Doubleclick on the speaker icon in your task bar to
bring up the mixer. One of the "panels" should be
titled microphone. If you do not have a microphone
"panel", the click on OPTIONS/PROPERTIES and under
SHOW THE FOLLOWING VOLUME CONTROLS make sure that
microphone is checked; then click on okay.

To keep the microphone from being used a playback
device uncheck the SELECT option at the bottom of the
microphone "panel".
