Sounds like something is preventing the red signal from reaching the
monitor. Try to locate the problem by substituting another known good
monitor and cable (Switch off before changing). It could be as simple
as a dirty connection, or something could have failed in the monitor,
cable, video card, or even the connection to the motherboard.

Sometimes thermal cycling (on-and-off) causes chips to "creep" in the
sockets. Remove the video card (Ground yourself first!), put it on a
firm surface, and press each socketed chip into place. If creep is a
problem, you should feel or hear the loose chips squeak into place.

If changing the monitor and cable, and video card doesn't help, try
another slot on the motherboard - a contact could be dirty, corroded,
or damaged.
