This is a rather common complaint.   In the case of my solution, it turned
out that the drive(s) were bad.   I tried three drives before finding  one
that the system would acknowledge without assigning it to drive letter
"B".  There has been a rash of this problem reported in the USENET
group:  alt.iomega.zip.jazz

Before you return the drive for replacement, there are two things you
should try first.

1) Make sure your motherboard has the lastest BIOS update installed,
    check the manufacturers web site for an a Bios flash update.
2) Try downloading the latest drivers for your Zip drive from Iomega:
