I got this same problem on a machine....this appeared out of nowhere.
Everything was fine, I moved it to a new location and it gives this
mysterious "invalid file handle" on ALL CDs from WIN95. It does however,
work fine from DOS using a boot floppy. My first instinct is a virus, but I
have the latest download update for Viruscan from McAfee 1 week before this
occured. So, I am slightly stumped, except to reformat this machine, unless
someone has some other info. Using any data CD's in Windows will not work
and will not read them, even in explorer, it also doesn't change the icon
under my computer for a new CD although the drive itself is recognized under
'My Computer'. The same CD's & CD player were fine before and since I can
read and work from DOS, its shouldnt be the hardware. I used the same Driver
file from the boot floppy as the machine uses in config.sys, so it isnt a
driver problem. It is however, some kind of Windows problem or when windows
loads, something goes haywire...Someone with more info on the win95 config
process may shed some light on this problem....
