 I have an older packard bell cdrom drive I would like to use on an ide
 controller as a master or slave. It came out of an older packard bell, but
 was tied in to the sound board.
 When I hooked it up to a newer pc and made a direct connection to the ide
 (second controller) the pc failed to boot. I do beleive the cdrom to be
 good.
 Question: Is there anything special about older cdrom's that were used on
 a channel off the sound card(interface portion of sound card) that would
 not allow use on a standard ide controller?

   thanks; john;
