If you are only connected to the other machine's shared drive, then it is
only sending a copy of the program file to your machine - indeed, the
program runs on your machine. To run on the remote computer, you would have
to take control of that computer by accessing it using some remote control
program. Examples of this would include PC-Anywhere (form Symantec) which
gives you full graphic control. Cytrix also has remote operation with
graphic interface (you get a window on your computer that shows the exact
screen display of the remote).

Text based control can be achieved using telnet, or one of several other
remote control programs. The key here is that the remote computer has to be
running some remote access software, and you need the client side of the
software on your own computer. If no such software has been installed, then
you cannot run a program on the other computer just because it is connected
to the network.
