!!!"PLEASE HELP ASAP"!!!

I have a HP Pavilion Desktop 8655C Pentium III. My OS is Win. 98 SE. My browser is IE 6. I recently turn on my computer after normal use and the following page was displayed:

Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Menu

1. Normal
2. Logged (\BOOTLOG.TXT)
3. Safe Mode
4. Step-by-Step Confirmation
5. Command Prompt Only
6. Safe Mode Command Prompt Only

Warning: Windows has detected a registry/configuration error. Choose, Command Prompt, and run SCANREG.

C:\>C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\MCAFEE~1\SCAN.EXE C:\

ERROR [35] : General Protection fault in SCANPM.EXE at 0018:3DCC

I've followed the above instructions to the letter with no avail. The system give me C:\> and then I type in SCANREG. Each time the response is the same "Bad command of file name. I don't know what to do next.

Thank You,

Jeffrey Warren
