Hi Craig:

The cheapest on replacing the motherboard will be on an Athlon, because you will not have to buy a new chip but only tranfer your current chip to your new board there is a compatible board on this site take a look
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130512,that only thing besides that motherboard you will have to buy is memory, because this board does not support pc 133 but pc 400, which is really cheap between 50 to 100bucks, I recomend you buy one of the following brands a kingtons, cosair, pqi,or vikings this are the best, you could find them on the same web site I gave you above, 50 buck are for 512 of ram and 1gb from 80 to 100, the motherboar comes to aroung 60 bucks, everything else of your pc should tranfer with no problems, if you prefer to change your motherboard for another brand make sure its athlon compatible, and pick a good brand such as , ASUS,ABIT, if you'll go for pentium system will will have to buy a new cpu, with could be from 100 to 300 dollars or more depending on the speed and other factors such as chipset it supports, socket it is,etc.well I hope this helps; sincerely.

My keyboard buffer is out on my motherboard so I need a new motherboard. I have a athlon 900mhz MSI board in a gateway mid-tower St. Francis model case. I am looking for some advice on what to replace my motherboard with. I don't want to spend a lot of money. Should I stay with some type of Athlon system or go to a intel P-4 system? What are my compatibility limitations? I am running Windows XP, and the current system has a 40 gig hard drive and about 850 MB of 133mhz ram.

thanks for any suggestions.
