Hi all,
Yes, I also have had 3 WD drives and today I purchased another (6.4). The 5.1
in my son's computer is just fine, whereas both of my 5.1s did the same thing.
They short out my PC. I know this because I replaced my first 5.1 WD with
another 5.1 WD. Within 3 months, it did the same thing (PC wouldn't turn on
at all - no power). I replaced my power supply, then Mobo. My PC still
wouldn't turn on - no power. I tried some of John Chin's suggestions and
determined that it was my hdd again. I purchased the new one today (6.4) and
everything works just fine now (w/new Mobo and power supply). I called WD and
they were great. They said this doesn't happen too often (I didn't mention
the 1st one) and they are going to replace it. NOW... this is my next
question....was my old Mobo causing the hdd to malfunction and develop a
'short' OR was it my power supply OR will I ever know or be able to find
out without ruining another hdd? My son's PC is in the room next to mine, but
he hasn't had the problems I have had. Once again, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Wendy Brown
