I have done this many times successfully.
One thing I would suggest to make things easier is to turn off everything
that you can from the startup menu and system tray.
If programs are running when you do the xcopy thing their shortcut drive
references may be wrong after you switch drives.
That is, shortcuts will refer to drive e instead of drive c.
