I see two possible reasons:

1. The software (driver) is not compatible with your OS. I experienced the
same problem when trying to install an older software onto W2k.

2. Do you have more than one partition on your hard disk?
If so, you might be installing the driver to say your d: partition, but the
installation program might also put some files in your c: partition, which
might be nearly full.
