Larry,
To correctly install your Voodoo II drivers it's better to get rid of all
traces of the Voodoo I card and drivers. First, go to Control Panel |
Add/Remove Programs and remove your Voodoo I. Then check your Device
Manager and remove your Voodoo I from your device manager, if it's still
listed there. If it's not listed under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers,"
look under "Other Devices" in your Device Manager and remove the "PCI
Multimedia Device". But usually it should be under "Sound, Video and Game
Controllers".

Then, using Windows Explorer, drill down to your "Windows | Inf | Other"
folder and delete any .inf files that are related to any old 3D cards you
have removed. This ensures a really clean slate to start.

Plug your new card in the slot, connect all the cables, start her up and
Win98 should recognize the Voodoo II card upon reboot. It'll ask for your
Voodoo II CD for the drivers and files etc. and pretty soon you are done.

As a matter of interest, you may want to get DX6 which you can get through
the Win98 Update page, if you haven't already. Also 3dfx has RC1 drivers
that's optimized for DX6 but you won't see that much of a difference in
performance as games optimizing the new code aren't expected till end of '98
or early '99. Lastly, Creative has very solid RC1 drivers for download
which essentially uses the 3dfx reference drivers (not the DX6, but the one
just before) but with a very nice overclocking slider built in and a nice
interface. Very nice and much improved over the standard.

HTH,
Richard
