Most of the wireless stuff out there right now should be base on
international standards. The most common in use today include: 802.11b,
802.11g, and 802.11a (less commonly used). 802.11b operates in the 2.4
Ghz Spectrum(aka Wifi), and 802.11g operates in the 5 Ghz Spectrum.

However it is rather well known in the wireless networking community that
there are some communications issues between
some vendors (as in a Netgear Wireless card may not communicate well with a
SMC wireless router).

I one place I highly recommend to check out is the Vendor and wirless
networking forums at www.broadbandreports.com (aka www.dslreports.com).
