dvd locks up when loading printer driver

I put in a parallel interface card in my computer.  The device manager says that everything is installed properly.  I have a Lexmark Z51 printer that is not plug and play.  When I boot I don't even get a message about a new piece of hardware.  And when I try to install the driver off the cd the dvd-rom locks the whole computer up and I have to reboot.  Any ideas?
