This is not correct.  I have two SATA drives as well as several IDE drives
and devices running on my computer.  It may be correct that SATA and IDE
might not run concurrently on a Promise controller, but this is separate
from the primary IDE controller.  Also, as you note, card or
motherboard-specific drivers for the SATA may have to be loaded depending on
the hardware configuration.
