Just to add to this last message, I have known on one occasion someone had a
very similar problem as described by yourself, and I found a screw had
fallen from somewhere (?), and got itself lodged on the m/b.
I'm assuming that the metal must have been making a connection and causing a
short on the m/b, as when it was removed, the problem disappeared.
This is highly unlikely to be your problem, but I would check as yours does
seem to be a short circuit somewhere on first impressions.
