I had a Tyan Tomcat 1 and the Keyboard controller chip went out. The
symptoms were exactly as you describe.  It occurred around 18 months into
the 24 month warranty and I was able to send it in for repair. They did not
replace the board, they fixed it. If you are very good with soldering on a
circuit board then I don't see why you couldn't repair it. The problem
would be obtaining any defective parts.
