The video card was the only part I couldn't check since my older machine
doesn't have AGP. Turns out(and this is really stupid on my part) I had a
jumper in the wrong place. I'm not even sure what it does and the manual
doesn't say, but I kept getting this feeling that I should move it around
and see. It worked. Maybe its one of those things that they take for granted
someone who wants to put together his own system would already know. Then I
found another problem. I am using the onboard audio(since my soundcard is
ISA and there are no ISA slots on this board). I installed the drivers that
came with it and I am only getting sound out of the left speaker. PCI
soundcards are cheap enough, but I thought the onboard audio might do. I'd
also like to install an LS-120 I have laying around, but I'm not sure if
this board supports it. It is mentioned in the BIOS manual, but nowhere in
BIOS setup. Thanks.

Subject: Re: [PCBUILD] Motherboard problems

Although it COULD be a motherboard problem, it sounds more like a video
board problem. Have you tried another video board in this motherboard? I
know you said that the video board is good, but it just may have a problem
working in this motherboard. I have seen such problems before.

Make sure that all unnecessary boards are removed - just keep the video
board. This will simplify the troubleshooting.

Hello everyone. I am new to the list. I started a project yesterday to build
a new desktop using some spare parts from my old machine and an AMD Athlon
XP 2000+(model 8) and a Biostar M7VIW motherboard. I'm have tried using 2
different hard drives, a quantum bigfoot 3gb and a maxtor 8gb. I'm using
256mb PC100 SDRAM and a Diamond Viper V770 32mb graphics adapter. Well, I
know the old harware works, because I have it up and running in an older
machine now. I suspect that the motherboard was DOA from newegg.com It won't
boot from any drive. The troubleshooting section in the manual says I should
make sure the CMOS settings are correct, but it won't let me into setup. I
press DEL to go to setup and I get a cursor in the upper left corner and it
just sits there. If I plug in a floppy drive, it will show me the hardware
monitor info and then say "verifying DMI pool data........." and then it
will just sit there. It does detect all the IDE devices though. Do I have
something set wrong or is the motherboard defective(or both)? I am happy to
provide any other info that would be helpful. I tried clearing CMOS and that
didn't help either. Please help, thank you.
