Generally speaking, yes...
For a closer spec match it would depend on the "family model"
core of the CPU      ( Barton, etc...) and  also on the on-board
cache amounts, and the FSB of the core...

AMD was/(is?) great at changing the FSB of a CPU core in
mid production...
(This would effect the MBs it was able to run in sometimes...)
