Your system with only memory installed and a monitor attached,
no cd, no hard disk, no diskette, no modem, should boot far enough
that something appears on the screen.  If the screen is still dark,
check your ram is installed properly, the motherboard isn't touching
something metal that it shouldn't be (grounded improperly), and that your monitor
does not have a bent pin in the connector that is preventing it from
plugging correctly into the video out port on the motherboard.
