  Situation resolved:

I am posting as a warning and help to those who may encounter this issue in
their travels. The BIOS update was in fact successful; however, you may
remember me mentioning the floppy drive never completing the loading of a
boot disk.

The BIOS upgraded to now accomodate up to 8 gb hard drives ... guess what
size mine was? 8.5.

I ran a disk mangler program as a boot overlay and everyone's happy now.

Thanks to all who jumped in with their thoughts!!

Believe it or not, it could be the BIOS. I had this problem with Epox (and
other dodgy brand) mobo. No boot disk will work (only works within windows,
but what you need boot disk for if you already in windows?) until I change
another different brand of floppy drive, (usually Sony won't work, but
Panasonic will). since all floppy drives (for PC) are standard, I don't
understand why, but it does happen.
