If you're comfortable with navigating BIOS consider going into [Chipset Features] or
similar title to disable Level 2 Cache. The system should slow down dramatically
IF the cache memory is ok. If not then I would suspect bad level 2... replace cpu.

... Is this likly an overheated and damaged chip and is there a diag boot program that tests it. If I boot to floppy I can work in the prompt fine but as soon as I try to access windows it freezes. Thanks
