I have seen this error message several times with different HP inkjets.
Once it was because I had installed a cartridge that was not EXACTLY the
right one for that particular printer.  Another time the new cartridge was
in fact not installed correctly.  Another time it was a defective printer
cable.  Several times a printer was working fine except for all the nagging
messages it sent.  I have sometimes tired of these messages and have turned
off "bi-directional  communication" between the printer and the PC.  You can
do this by running an executable found in the windows\system directory, the
name varies with your printer model but it will be called something like
HPCFG??.EXE.  Run this program and remove the check mark next to
"bi-directional communication".  Reboot the computer and these type messages
will no longer be active.
