You've run into the 2.1 gb barrier. Given the vintage of your PC, start
with the BIOS. Go to both the motherboard and BIOS manufacturer's sites
and check out the limits; it may be possible to download and burn an
updated BIOS that will resolve the problem. (Not for the faint hearted.
This is one time when it's critically important to read the instructions
-- several times.) Another possibility is to use a disk overlay program
such as Disk Manager from OnTrack. Often the HD manufacturer furnishes a
disk manager with the drive (Western Digital calls theirs EZ-Drive), and
it may also be available from their website. These programs have some
down sides, but a lot of people use them. Finally, it may be possible to
use an add-in EIDE card to replace the onboard IDE controller.
Once you've sorted out the hardware side of things, your next problem is
your OS: I May be wrong on this, but my recollection is that Win 95 did
not support drives larger than 2.1 gb.
BTW - the PCBuild site has some great resources for this kind of
research. If you haven't been there, it's well worth your time.

Good luck,
Carroll Grigsby
