I have a PC with a new 98 install. The PNP modem is setup on COM 2 IRQ and
works fine. However Windows 98 has created two Com ports....1 and 4.....at
first 98 setup ports 1 and 5 and the modem was on 5 but I forced the modem
on Com 2 IRQ3 and removed the Port 5 and Win98 created Com 4.
Of course Com 2 and Com 4 are shared and the modem works but it is causing
problems with fax programs. COM diagnostics identify the modem on COM 2
IRQ 3 and
the modem tests out fine. But Fax programs either won't load or they lock
when they do load looking for Com2.

The ONLY thing using the Com ports is the modem...the mouse is a PS2..IRQ 12.
How can I force 98 to setup Com 2 instead of 4 ?
thanks for the help
Mark
