I purchased a Microtek ScanMaker 3800 USB scanner about two years ago,
used it a couple of times, and let it sit idle for at least a year. Now
that I want to use it again, I cannot get any sign of life from it, and the
Microtek diagnostics say it's not plugged in.

As I recall, it wasn't expensive, and so replacing it shouldn't be a big
deal. But it bothers me that I got so little use from it.
Does anyone have any suggestions of things to try before writing it off?
