This isn't just limited to Lexmark either.  A guy here in the office had
the same problem with an Epson Stylus Color 850Ne some time ago (a pricey
printer.)  Within a month of putting it into service, it started having
difficulties with the paper feed.  In this case, the guy just deals with
hand-feeding one sheet at a time.  Personally, I would have returned it but
it wasn't my call in that instance.

The printer you bought used may be defective.  Check
http://www.lexmark.com/US/warranty/1,1353,,00.html for any possible
warranty entitlement you may have.  (This is a US link - go to lexmark.com
and choose the right region if you're not in the US.)
