Thanks for the advice for delpart.exe, Zap, and Wipe....I ended up trying
delpart.exe...It did seem to work, but I still have garbage on the drive.  I
will try the maxtor disk utilities.  If nothing works, I'll trying driving
my car over it!

There is a DOS utility called "delpart.exe" that I believe originally came
from one of the early NT4.0 versions. I have used it a few times on
partitions that nothing else would touch, and it killed them every time.
