  Not for you, no.

  There is a scheme which uses colors to number cables within the same area: 
1 - blue, 2 - orange, 3 - green, 4 - beige, and so on.  But these colors are 
most often used for the wall jacks, and the color of the actual cable bears 
no relation to its capability.
  There is another convention that crossover cables should be red, orange, 
or yellow with red connectors, but this is not universally followed.

  CDs come in three basic flavours:  pre-recorded, write=once CD-R, and 
rewritable CD-RW.

  In the DVD world, there again are prerecorded, R and RW.  But there are 
two recording standards, + and -, and so you get DVD-R- and so on.  Most DVD 
drives sold support both + and -, so they should work with whatever kind of 
disks you buy.
